About Us

Vision

To win and disciple Prodigals in order that they bear fruit.

Mission

Go, Make, Baptize, Teach, and Empower all people!

Our Story

The story in the Bible of the Prodigal Son is one that is relatable to many of us. A father shares his wealth between his sons; one leaves and the other stays. The one who left finally returns and the one who stayed resents the response of the father when the son who wasted his inheritance returns. In essence, both sons are prodigals with a need to return to the father’s welcoming embrace. We are a church filled with prodigals. We want to welcome all who have strayed from the Father and all who have stayed out of duty. Our hope is to restore relationship with Our Heavenly Father. We believe that the Father runs to meet us and calls us to run with Jesus as we embrace a new beginning, persevering through life, and finishing strong!

Prodigal Church began on a patio in Lubbock, Texas, on August 6, 2023. We moved into temporary facilities in the Fusion Building on the Aldersgate Church campus, 10306 Indiana, on October 1, 2023. We worship together at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings and share nursery and children’s Sunday School classes with Aldersgate during our worship service.

We are a new church plant in the Global Methodist Church system and our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Prodigals, we welcome you!

Our Purpose

Go into all the world, making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all of the commandments and know that the Holy Spirit will be with them, empowering them until the end.

To be gifted from the Holy Spirit for ministry, leadership, and vision.

To bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit–sanctified and perfected in Love.

To worship in Spirit and Truth!

Who We Are

Prodigal Church is a newly planted Global Methodist Church. The mission of the Global Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Prodigal Church embraces this mission statement full-heartedly.

In our specific context, the planting name, Prodigal Church was chosen based on the parable Jesus told in Luke 15:11-32. This parable, by far, is probably the most recognized story in the Bible by the secular world as well as the sacred communities of faith. Many titles have been assigned to this parable, thus communicating the Biblical nature of God, Man, Sin, Grace, Legalism, Love, Rejection, Judgment, and on and on the list goes.

Prodigal Church labels and entitles this story with these words: Welcome Home, Prodigal!

We accept that all people have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We, like Adam and Eve, no longer dwell in the presence of God.

We live in shame and guilt because of our rebellious acts of disobeying God’s word.
We are no longer dwelling in the House of God. We are homeless!

We also accept that all people are loved by God and it is not His will that any should perish. In other words, “It is His will that we live in His presence for eternity.” For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. When Peter preached the first sermon of the Church on Pentecost Day, the crowd of 3,000 began to exclaim, “Brothers, what must we do to be saved?” Peter told them, “Repent (turn your back on sin and turn to Jesus) and let each of you (personal decision) be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (the old man being buried and the new man being redeemed, restored, reconciled, resurrected, and rewarded) for the forgiveness of your sins (no longer a prisoner of sin, shame, and guilt) and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (born of the Spirit: regeneration, covered and filled with the Spirit; sanctified: set apart to bear the fruits and gifts of the Spirit, empowered to walk in the Spirit, to overcome sin and the flesh) (Acts 2:27-41).

We believe with the Apostle Paul, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved!” (Romans 10:9). We are at home, once again, forever!
